Alumni Profile
You have to hand it to Anne Marie Nixon--not many of us can say we have to “pinch ourselves” periodically to make sure we are not dreaming! At 24, this 2002 graduate is currently employed as a Counseling Psychologist at KidTherapy, a private practice in Chester, New Jersey, that offers occupational, speech, and play therapy services to children with various difficulties. In addition to her counseling schedule, Anne Marie teaches Psychology at Centenary College and conducts Yoga classes as part of the Motion for Life program, serving the general and special needs populations at a local private school. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a concentration in Child Development, Anne Marie went on to earn a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, specializing in Student Personnel Services, from the College of St. Elizabeth. She is currently a doctoral learner and earning her Ph.D. in Psychology from Capella University.
Attracted to the size of our campus, Anne Marie transferred to Southern Vermont College in Fall 2000 from a slightly larger college in North Carolina. She believes SVC is a nurturing place where students receive one-on-one contact and guidance from professors and staff. Her time at the College helped her discover her career path, and she is thrilled to be working in the Psychology field! Anne Marie recently moved to a new home in Summit, New Jersey, with her boyfriend, Patrick, who is a school psychologist. She has a tight-knit family nearby, and they spend much of their free time together!
