Sylvio Mantello '98
In 1994, Sylvio visited Southern Vermont College to check out the Criminal Justice program. After meeting with Dan Tange (former Criminal Justice Program Coordinator), Sylvio decided to transfer from Hudson Valley Community College to attend Southern Vermont College fulltime. Sylvio graduated in 1998 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Private Security. He served as President of the Criminal Justice Association, where he helped organize ride-alongs for CJ students with New York police officers. To sponsor the local DARE program and guest speakers, Sylvio planned charity basketball games. Throughout his freshman, sophomore, and junior years, he played baseball under the direction of Coach Brian Fruscio. After leaving Southern Vermont College, Sylvio attended the Police Academy within the Troy Police Department. Upon graduating from the Academy, he was offered a position as an investigator for the State of New York. Sylvio has been with the State of New York since that time and was recently promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Security. His duties include overseeing the Albany, Hempstad, Hauppauge, and Peeksville offices. In his limited spare time, Sylvio is active in local and state politics. He enjoys working out and playing softball on a community fast-pitch league. He and his fiancé, Kristen, reside in Brunswick, New York. You can contact Sylvio at hounddog219@hotmail.com.
